Brunswick Forest, Block Twelve from Prairie Moon Quilts

This is it! The end of the trail through the forest — the last block for the Brunswick Forest BOM.

I sure hope you’ve enjoyed making all the trees in this quilt. I definitely have my favorites, and I’m still making more!

This final block is one of my favorites in the entire quilt. It’s called Mighty Oak. There are a lot of triangles, but they’re worth it! It makes a lovely block. It would make a really lovely quilt using only this block repeated. I might have to try that before my “tree phase” ends!

Here ...

Brunswick Forest, Block Eleven from Prairie Moon Quilts

So close to the finish line! Only one more block after this one.

By now, you’ve gotten used to all the triangles, and hopefully, you’ve begun work on your setting, regardless of which setting version you’ve chosen.

Block Eleven is called Peach Tree, and it doesn’t have many triangles in it. It’s another one that is easy and made of squares.

Here’s my fall version:

Here’s my non-traditional version:

And here’s my scrappy one. This month’s color was peachy orange — you know, to look like peaches!

You can make the little ...

Brunswick Forest, Block Ten from Prairie Moon Quilts

Oh, the lovely Cypress tree! With their long, tall trunks and their soft, needly branches. I realize that “soft and needly” sounds like an oxymoron, but seriously! — have you ever petted a cypress tree? They’re actually quite soft. I love the way the wind sounds through them. They’re quite regal.

The cypress tree is this month’s block in the Brunswick Forest BOM.

Here’s my fall-colored version:

My non-traditional one:

And my scrappy one. I used all one low-volume print for my accent “color” this time:

We’re still doing triangles this month, but they’re not ...

Brunswick Forest, Block Nine from Prairie Moon Quilts

We’re nearing the end! Only three more blocks after this one.

Block Nine is called Tennessee Pine. Although it does have triangles, they’re a bit larger, so therefore, you won’t need as many, and they’ll be a bit easier to work with.

Here’s my fall-colored version. I was kinda hoping my gold print would give the feel of pine cones in the tree — haha!

Here’s my non-traditional version:

And here’s my scrappy one. This month’s color was gray.

I hope you’re working on your settings as you go along, so when ...

Brunswick Forest, Block Eight from Prairie Moon Quilts

This month’s block is another of my favorites: Tree of Life.

We’re back to the triangles this month, but they’re so worth it!

Here’s the fall version:

Here’s the non-traditional version:

And here’s my scrappy one (this month’s color was pink):

This block is another possibility for an all-scrappy quilt of trees! I think I’m officially in what my friend, Rose Marie, would call my “Tree Phase” — haha! I wanna make ALL the trees!

I don’t have any tidbits of wisdom for you about the quilt this month. By now, you ...

Brunswick Forest, Block Seven from Prairie Moon Quilts

Time to dive into the second half of the Brunswick Forest BOM!

Block Seven is called Apple Tree. Another easy one with very few triangles.

Here it is in the fall-colored version:

Here’s the non-traditional color way. I didn’t plan it that way, but I like how the print in this one made those little crosses in the patches:

And here’s my scrappy one. This month’s “color” was red-and-white polka dot (to look like apples — see what I did there?):

Lately, I’ve been rummaging through all my vintage items. For one thing, I love looking ...

Brunswick Forest, Block Six from Prairie Moon Quilts

Here we are at the halfway point already!

We’re having another break from the triangles this month. Block Six is called Tree of Temptation, and it uses three prints with the background instead of only two.

Here’s Block 6 in the fall-colored version. Very nice fall colors in this one.

Here’s the non-traditional color. I used a bit larger-scale print in this one this time, since it would show up.

And here’s my scrappy one. This month’s color is blue!

This one is so easy, it’s living up to its name and really tempting ...

Brunswick Forest, Block Five from Prairie Moon Quilts

This week, if you’re participating, you’re getting Block Five of your Brunswick Forest BOM — and this time, the tree is called Evergreen. This is one of my favorite blocks in the quilt.

I’m sort of trying to decide which one tree I’d like to make an entire quilt of — this one might be it! Not that I’ll ever get around to it, but I’d sure like to!

This one once again has lots of little triangles, but they’re so worth it in the end. I chose all dark greens for my evergreen tree ...

Brunswick Forest, Block Four from Prairie Moon Quilts

We’re already on Block Four of Brunswick Forest! This next year is shaping up to fly right by, isn’t it?

I hope you’re keeping up with the blocks. I know some of them are lots of sewing with tiny pieces, but I think you’ll find it has all been worth it in the end!

Last month gave you a break from all the triangles, but they’re back this month. But also worth it, because this month’s block is called Christmas Tree, and it’s only fitting to have a detailed pretty tree for Christmas ...

Maple Leaf Quilt-Along Wrap-up from Prairie Moon Quilts

Well, we’re at the end of the formal part of this quilt-along. Have you chosen a layout for your leaves?

I’m still going with my original decision — I’m doing the throw version of Layout #1. But I have a lot more leaves to make. I’ll be using the leaves as my leader/ender project for the foreseeable future. I cut them out 10 at a time, then when I run out, I cut some more. The pile is slowly getting bigger. And every once in awhile, I’ll sew some of them into a larger block ...

Maple Leaf Quilt-Along, Step 6 from Prairie Moon Quilts

I’m back today with our final layout option! Altho, I’m sure you can think of many more on your own. It will all depend on how many leaves you feel like making. Some of you have had great ideas about incorporating the leaves into scrap quilts you already have going on, which is a fabulous idea!

Here are a few that Cindy has made — she has hand pieced about 20 leaves, and plans to make more by machine!

I’ve been cutting mine out 10 at a time, then when I run out of pieces to sew, I ...

Brunswick Forest, Block Two from Prairie Moon Quilts

Once again, I’m having trouble keeping track of the days, and I completely missed that last Saturday was second Saturday, and I was supposed to talk about Block 2 of Brunswick Forest! So here we are today instead. Better late than never, I guess!

Block Two is Pine Tree. There are two different methods for finishing off this block, depending on the setting you’ll be using. Both methods are outlined in the pattern instructions.

Here are the three color versions . . .

Traditional fall colors, rust and green — so fall-ish:

Non-traditional, navy and gold — also sort of fall-ish:

Scrappy, green ...

Maple Leaf Quilt-Along, Step 5 from Prairie Moon Quilts

So many leaves! But really, the leaves are starting to add up on the ground around here, too. We walked out one morning to do chores, and the back porch was just full of them! We haven’t even had a hard frost yet. In fact, it’s not even been below 40 degrees yet (thankfully).

I’ve been slowly plugging away at my pile of leaves. As slowly as I’m working, making 160 leaves for my throw quilt sounds pretty daunting, but I’ll eventually get there. It’s the cutting that is slowing me down, since I ...

Maple Leaf Quilt-Along, Step 4 from Prairie Moon Quilts

Halfway through this already?? How can that be? Have you been making lots of little leaves?

Here are a few that Helen has made — I love her colors so far!

Here’s one bunch of mine so far. I’ve made a few more since these, but don’t have photos yet. I’m too slow to get in my 30 per week that I wanted to. But I’m not giving up!

I’m back today with another possible layout for these little leaves (ok, two layouts). I said last week that the first layout would probably require the ...

Maple Leaf Quilt-Along, Step 3 from Prairie Moon Quilts

Have you started a pile of little Maple Leaf blocks by now? I’ve seen a few around, and some of you have sent me some lovely pictures! Here’s one Amanda made — the color in this is fabulous!!!

I’m a little slow at it. It’s super difficult for me to cut anything. I ordered one of those ergonomic rotary cutters from Martelli, and it helps a lot, but even then, I can only use it for a tiny amount of time. I’m calling it part of my therapy, because getting back to doing the things I ...

Maple Leaf Quilt-Along, Step 2 from Prairie Moon Quilts

Here we go!

Have you picked out and gathered up your fabrics for your Maple Leaves? It’s time to get cutting and stitching!

Let’s get right to it . . .

CUTTING:
The instructions are for cutting ONE block only. This way it’s a lot easier for you to make the blocks scrappy.

For ONE block:

From background, cut:
(3) 2″ squares — Draw a diagonal line on the back of two of these squares; cut the third square in half diagonally to make 2 triangles.
(1) 1 1/2″ square

From a print (or multiple prints), cut:
(2) 2″ squares ...

It’s a Maple Leaf Quilt-Along! from Prairie Moon Quilts

In conjunction with the Brunswick Forest BOM, I’m hosting a quick little Quilt-along for those darling Maple Leaf blocks! They were so fun to make, I didn’t get enough the first time around while making the fall version of the quilt, and I want to do more. I want you to join me!

They’re great for busting small scraps, and they’re just so dang cute! Plus, it’s fall, so why not spend the fall making some leaves in our sewing rooms, while the leaves fall outdoors?

If you’re doing the Fall version of the ...

A Scrappy Brunswick Forest from Prairie Moon Quilts

When I introduced Brunswick Forest to you a few weeks ago, I mentioned that a third setting option would be available for this BOM quilt.

If you’re not a fan of the larger pieced settings shown in the original versions (which you can see HERE), this alternate setting is a simpler setting that makes a smaller finished quilt.

Meet Scrappy Brunswick Forest:

This version uses all 12 blocks, plus one block made up of the little Maple Leaves to fill in. (If you don’t want that block, you could use a plain block, or repeat your favorite tree ...
